Design and Technology

“Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose”

Charles Eames

Design and technology is an inspiring, exciting and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real-life ‘problems’ using a variety of materials, in a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on other curriculum areas such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful and innovative; and they learn the life skills of perseverance and adaptability. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a deeper understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
