END OF THE YEAR!

WHAT a year we have had in 3RA and we ended it in style yesterday with a class party, ice cream and party games! Thank you to each and everyone of you and your lovely parents for being so fabulous - I will miss you all! Have a gorgeous Summer, stay safe and all the best for the future. From Miss Austerfield xx

WHAT a week we have had making things for our 'Hearts and Crafts' stall at the Summer Fair. We have spent all week making our hanging hessian love hearts, pom pom keyrings and hair clips. Each and every child has worked so hard and I am so pleased to say that we raised an amazing £77!!

Yesterday we continued our 'light' unit of Science by looking at why the sun can be dangerous and how to protect our eyes. We covered our eyes for 30 seconds, opened them, looked at our partner's pupils and noticed how they reacted to light!

09/06/17 - Bedtime Story Day!

What a lovely, relaxed afternoon we had on Friday filled with wonderful books and biscuits! We began our afternoon by discussing our favourite books and authors and sharing different texts. We were then treated to a bedtime story read by Tom Hardy. After break, some of our classes swapped over and part of 3RA had a book read to them by a year 6. We then got cosy once again while I read Midnight Gang by David Walliams - a fantastic, gripping read! 

07/06/17 - PE

We started our PE lesson by making pyramids with our bodies. We then linked it to Maths by deciding whether they were square based pyramid or triangular based pyramids! Afterwards, we looked at Ancient Egyptian traditional dances and began to create our own routines based on some of these moves! Excellent work 3RA!

Today we completed our designed and created our first prototype! This was extremely useful because we now know what we need to do differently and the same for our actual shadow puppet tomorrow! We can't wait to have our adults in to help us smiley

Here are some pictures of the start of our DT week which is based around making shadow puppets. We have had so much fun already and have laughed so much!

16/05/17 - Art and RE day

We began our day by creating our very own stained glass windows! We split our designs into quarters and in our groups of 4, we used glass paints to create the effective and vibrant colours. Once it had dried, we used black paint to create the effect of lead on the windows. We think they look amazing!

We had a lovely visit to church today to look at and understand the different stained glass windows

Today we have been learning about reflecting light. We tested different materials to see which one reflected the most light - there were many different opinions and we had a great debate!

We are embarking on the adventure of learning to tell the time over the next few weeks! We began by annotating a blank clock to give to aliens who have landed on Mars. Hopefully 3RA made them so detailed that they are now time geniuses! surprise

07/03/17 - Belated World Book Day!

We had an amazing day on Thursday for World Book Day and I was amazed by the fantastic, thoughtful costumes. We did lots of work around the book 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson all day. We began by writing a letter from the perspective of the snail. Then, we went into the playground and measured the length of a humpback whale (a whopping 15m)! In the afternoon, we created our very own snails during Art. All in all, a wonderful day! smiley

We had an excellent afternoon of P.E full of football and gymnastics! We spent the first hour practicing our passing and dribbling skills. 23/01/17 - Skipping for Life

We loved having Skippy John in today to give us a lesson about how to skip properly. By the end of it we were skipping backwards, on one leg and some of us were even skipping while doing starjumps! I did have lots of photos to put on here, but unfortunately I somehow managed to delete them from the camera. Silly me - sorry!

In line with our Stone Age topic, we created our cave paintings today! We created the 'cave like' background using a teabag to stain the paper and then crumpled the paper to create the texture of a cave. We then used charcoal to draw our animals, taking inspiration from some well known cave paintings that have been found by archaeologists!

Our class are sooooo excited for both of our performances. Just a quick reminder to parents that all children need to arrive at school and church for no later than 6:15 on both nights. The performances will end at around 8pm and children will be ready to pick up at 8:30pm.

We have had some fantastic English work this morning! We have been starting our instructions on how to catch a dream. They created their gripping title and introduction. We then had a feely bag of different equipment needed, and the children had to guess what was in it.

We have been working on our reasoning skills today in Maths. We were given a set of dominoes and we had to find out whether there was a domino missing. However, we had to think carefully about which method we were going to use to find out, and explain it using reasoning skills. Different pairs used different methods and it was really interesting to work out!

Today in Art we were looking at tints and shades and creating these using watercolour paints. Next week, we will use this skill to create our own watercolour sunset background using tints and shades of orange and yellow.

Today in Science, we have been learning about the different types of fossils and how they are formed. We then made our own mould and cast fossils by using fossil dough. We formed the mould fossil by imprinting a lego brick in the dough, we then made the cast fossil in the mould  by using PVA glue!

Keep your eyes peeled for the finish products once they have dried smiley
